Shabri

 Shabri Jayanti

Shabri Jayanti is celebrated on the Saptami of Falgun Maha's Krishna Paksha every year in India.  Because on this day Lord Shri Ram's devotee Shabri fed false berries to his adorable Shri Ram.  Their description is found in texts like Bhagavatpuran, Ramcharitmanas, Ramayana and Saket.

 Who was Shabari?

Shabari is a symbol of patience, patience.  Who patiently waits for his Rama's arrival.  Shabri's real name was Shramana.  Shabari waits for Ekatak and Apalak Sri Rama, and in return they receive Vaikuntha Loka.

Shabari was the daughter of Bhilraj Sabar, a tribal.  Shabari was of a tender heart and kind heartedness, when at her wedding she saw that her father had brought a large number of goats, and they would be killed and cooked food, their heart was disturbed.  Shabari thought in her mind that if she ran away from home, the animals would surely be saved, though she knew that if she listened to her heart, she would never be accepted into her clan.  Nevertheless, Shabri decided to save the animals.  As soon as dawn, Sabari freed all the goats, and herself went into the dense forest and became a disciple of the sage Mathang, and started getting education.

Shabari put all her energy into learning, serving the Guru, working in the cowshed and arranging food for all other Gurukul residents.  It is said that when sage Mathang was near death, Sabri, who had attained old age, asked him how he would get the same knowledge and disinterest and philosophy of God as him?  Then the sage gave Shabari a boon that for his selfless service he would not only get darshan of the Lord, but Lord Shri Ram himself would come and visit her.  The bus has since been waiting for the arrival of Shri Ram.

Shri Ram ate false plum of Shabri

Shabari used to decorate the ashram every day in waiting of Lord Rama, and laid beautiful flowers on the way.  When Shabri came to know that Lord Shri Ram himself had come to her ashram, she was completely overwhelmed and ran and clung to the feet of her Lord Shri Ram.  After this Shabri quickly brought wild tuber origin and plum.  The plum should not be sour so Shabri, who was in a trance of devotion to her God, tasted the beers and gave the berries to Sri Rama and Lakshmana to eat.

Laxman was hesitant to eat false plum, but Laxman took plum but did not eat it.  As a result of which, Lakshman fainted with the use of Shaktibana in the battle of Sri Rama and Ravana.  This plum was then used to make Sanjeevani herbs.  Shri Rama, under the reverence and exclusive devotion of Shabri, ate false plum continuously with spontaneous feeling and love.

The taste that Lord Shri Ram received in these fruits was neither found anywhere before, nor was found anywhere else after this, Lord Shri Ram gave precious words of Navdha Bhakti to Shabri.  Upon hearing this, Sabri was blessed and went to heaven with the permission of God.
